I've never been a big breakfast person. However, after sifting through health blogs upon health blogs, I've realized how crucial it is to your metabolism to make sure you eat breakfast everyday. I typically workout in the morning, and never leave the house without eating something. Working out on an empty stomach is pretty dangerous, and I've experienced first hand what it's like to wake up on the ground mid-workout because I didn't give my body enough nutrients. It's no fun.
My most recent breakfast obsession is yogurt. For all of you yogurt haters out there, I can sympathize. When I was little, I used to eat one kind of yogurt: Trix. It was rainbow colored and came with sprinkles. Now that I'm a little older... Trix doesn't make the cut. For whatever reason, I struggled to find yogurt that I could actually tolerate. I don't like greek yogurt. Dannon LightFit yogurt is my go to yogurt. It comes in a ton of different flavors: some of my favorites being blueberry, raspberry, and vanilla. Each cup has only 80 calories, compared to regular non-fat yogurt that typically averages around 170 calories. It also has no aspartame, which is something I'm drawn to. At Hannaford, it's $1.99 for a four-pack.
Because I'm still in the beginning stages of liking yogurt, I can't just eat it plain. No crunch, no deal. I've tried a variety of different types of granola and finally settled on one. Bear Naked Triple Berry Crunch Fit granola is only 120 calories per 1/4 cup, it's low fat, and has only 3 grams of sugar. It's made with whole grain oats, rice, oat bran, flax seeds, and freeze dried berries.
To top off my "parfait", I top it with whatever berries I have in my refrigerator. Today I used strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, AND blackberries. YUM.
